Cross Stitch Cross Stitch has been around for a long time. It is easy to work and one of the most used embroidery stitches. Most beginners have chosen cross stitch designs as their starting point. Xstitch designs come in different levels of difficulty, it can be as easy or as intricate as your skills range. Cross Stitch has been worked on 14, 16 or 18 ct AIDA for a very long time, it is an easy fabric to count and work on. Many stitcher prefer now Linen or Evenweave in higher counts, because the fabric and colour range is much wider than with AIDA. Cross Stitch worked on 32 ct Linen over 2 threads is the same as worked on 16 ct AIDA in size, but it looks more sophisticated. It also enables the use of needlepoint stitches as well. The use for Cross Stitch has changed over the years. Embroiderers now utilize this stitch together with Hardanger, Needlepoint or Stumpwork. It is often worked in multicoloured or variegated threads, in silks, pearls or wools. These 2 little fellows just couldn't
resist to sneak early into the page. Looking mischievous, they are just
waiting to be stitched and be adorned with some more beads and perhaps
a crystal or 2. I will use 32 ct. cream or light green linen for this
design, stitched over 2 threads for the cross stitch. Size is 25.5 cm
(10”) wide x 19.5 cm (7 ½”) long, threads used are Dinky Dyes and
Anchor stranded cotton. Design contains some fractal stitches. |
